ThoughtsA friend of mine sent me information on a new service called "moviebeam" (www.moviebeam.com) which apparently uses a proprietary broadcast to provide moves on demand. You install an antenna and a proprietary appliance to manage your account and receive and cache the films. He felt that this was the next big thing, and represents a different niche than (legal) downloads from the internet.

TechnicalI started collecting various plithy stayings in the early eighties. The local timesharing system had a "message of the day" which, when not containing downtime announcements, would usually have some aphorism submitted by various users.

I've lost many of them over the years, mostly due to media format changes (anyone have a 9 track open reel tape drive?) but I still collect them, so over the long term the list does tend to grow.

Recently frustrated by attempts to wring useful information out of corporate documentation, I sat down one afternoon at Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort whilst daughter Shannon and friend amused themselves snowboarding, and filled a notebook with everything I didn't like about the state of technical documentation today. Here, after too many expensive Irish Coffees, as far as I can read my own handwriting, are the results.

I wrote this back in the days of Red Hat 7. Although later versions of Red Hat had more reasonable defaults, there's still some useful information in here.
